How To Handle Stress At Workplace

All of us face some form of stress right from our childhood  to adulthood. The era and world we live in is fast paced, ever changing and  demanding. Everything is needed instantly, like instant food, instant solutions and the list is never ending. The child faces stress at  school, a teenager has peer pressure, a housewife has family pressure and a office goes has work related stress. A little bit of stress is a part and parcel of life, it helps us achieve targets, also motivates us. But it becomes a problem when it is too much to handle.

Pinpoint The Cause Of Stress: Diagnose the cause of stress is very important as then you can work towards improving and reducing stress. So many times we are stressed and don’t really know what’s causing it. Also we are lost as we don’t know how to handle stress and pressure at work. So, it’s mandatory to have a clear understanding of the causes and derive effective solutions.

Don’t Get Overwhelmed And Intimidated By Stress: There are phases when stress looks overwhelming and one gets boggled and intimidated. In such cases try to rethink and don’t let the stress haunt you. Avoid listening to the voice which says Oh! there is so much stress and pressure. It’s all in the mind, if you make a big deal out of the stress it will become huge. As far as possible avoid situations which can add to unnecessary stress.

View Stress In A Positive Limelight: Although Stress has a bad name, still stress in small doses is not all that bad. In fact it’s a motivator, solution giver and target achiever. So learn to use stress to one’s benefit. Accept the fact  that little bit of stress will always be there, there’s no running away from it.

Have A Calm And Balanced Approach: One can panic and increase the stress levels. This can be fatal for health. So, when faced with stress  be calm and composed. Having a friendly, pleasant disposition always helps in feeling good and in control of the situation and reduces stress levels.

Positive Outlook: Listen to motivational speeches, audios, lectures etc. Being with positive, happy people who are solution oriented is always beneficial. If you want to know how to cope with work stress, then check yourself from time to time to see if you are in a negative frame of mind. And once you catch yourself resonating with negative vibes, quickly reinforce the negative thoughts with positive ones. This might take some time, but in due time it will turn into a good habit that promotes positivity.

Meditation: To be able to lead a balanced life mental and emotional well being is necessary. Practice daily meditation for half an hour or so. Look for a comfortable, quiet corner and meditate there daily. Play some soothing audios, keep the room properly ventilated and use aromatic oils to create a suitable environment for meditation.

Exercise Daily: Like mental and emotional well being, physical fitness is also important. Exercise is a great stress buster. Do any form of exercise whether it’s  brisk walking, running, playing badminton, tennis etc. Fresh air and exercise is a must for overall health and fitness.

Find A hobby: Take out some time for yourself from your hectic life. Normally we tend to get frustrated when we are over burdened with work and don’t get time to do what we enjoy. So it’s crucial that we cultivate and nurture our hobbies. This helps in creating mental peace and harmony.

Good Communication: Effective communication is the key  to solve misunderstandings. Keep your communication channels open, have simple and clear conversations. Ask for help if counselling or guidance is required.

Time With Family And Friends: Spend quality time with family. Connect with friends from time to time. A good friend is a boon to our well being. He or she can not only help and guide us but also support us in troubled times. Things like stress and depression reduces a great deal when we discuss it with our near and dear ones and so many times we get good solutions to our problems.

Find Suitable Job: Look for a job that suits your profile as only that can give you proper work satisfaction. If you are highly qualified look for a designation that would do justice to your skills and talents. Avoid competition, let go of jealousy, make friends and be the  best version of yourself.

Learn Skills: The most essential factor is to have necessary skills to manage stress at workplace. So  join good skill workshops where you can learn effective ways and strategies to defeat stressful situations. There are many institutions out there for skill learning, but choose wisely and enroll yourselves in  effective programs and courses.

Organise Effectively: Organise your day and work in a disciplined manner. Learn to manage challenging situations with enthusiasm and positivity. Delegate work if necessary, don’t try to overdo or else it can create a mess and cause unwanted stress. There are studies proving that stress reduces productivity. So, do not tire yourself as this can cost you your productivity.

Time Management: Follow proper routine, learn the art of not wasting time. Many a times we waste time innocently without realizing and then stress about  how come there is a lack of time. Multitask if the situation so demands. Time yourself for a given task and check where time gets wasted and how, then work towards improving it.

Teamwork: Good teamwork is essential for effective and efficient working of any company or institution.

Set Achievable Goals: Don’t try to set unachievable or unrealistic goals and add to your stress. Write your goals on a piece of paper on your desk where  you can see it everyday and work towards achieving them. Also set a timeline for your goals. Don’t get disheartened if it takes more time than you thought, just work sincerely and faithfully and soon you will realise you are successful.

Good Employer Employee relations: Learn to do things politely, efficiently and tactfully, Ask for guidance and help whenever needed. Never let anyone under value or exploit you. If you agree to disagree on any points or situations, don’t get stressed, instead solve them with clear and effective communication. Deal with everyone with respect and understanding

Good Relations With Colleagues: It is also important to have good relations with your colleagues at workplace. If there are misunderstandings or problems it can lead to tension and stress which can be harmful for all. Be friendly and develop a helping attitude. Make newcomers feel welcome and adjust gracefully to demanding and challenging situations.

Helping And Guiding Clients: It is vital to make the clients feel comfortable and meet all their needs in the best way possible. Unhappy or distrusting clients can affect the company negatively, so it’s crucial to create mutual trust and understanding while dealing with clients.
